I believe PHP is crap. Why? Language itself is crap. Crappy syntax, procedural code mixed with what is supposed to be OOP. Crappy community, which way less smart than Java or Ruby community. Over 10 years of “maturity” and still, no namespaces, no consistency, no standards. That’s why PHP folks are “underpayed”. It’s not underpayed, it’s reality - you do not deserve real programmers sallary. Do you know shit about concurrency, multi threading, pooling resources, memory management, bytecode manipulation, enterprise integration, statefull applications that do not live for 1 request only, messaging, SOA, GUI development (php-gtk is a sick fetish. I feel sorry for the author. Can you really do something USABLE/installable/standalone with that?). How can you feel underpayed? PHP is suitable for websites, and websites only. And now when there are tools like Rails, I believe it’s over for PHP. So, polute the feeds, discuss pointless things, argue about whether to implement another DB abstraction or not, and keep sobbing about your low underpayed wages. I feel sorry for you. Honestly.
I am sure this comment will either be deleted or clubbed to death by most of you, but still. Look around. Look up. Don’t be burried in crap and pretend to be happy with it. For web development I choose Rails. Ruby has faster learning curve than PHP, as it is consistent - try it. Do a web site with it. Than bash it, if it sucks. Don’t blow bubbles. PHP is leading web development platform? Is it? Leading in what ways? Because companies can buy 3 cheap php folks instead of 1 java guy? Because midgets and infidels can do counter-strike clansites with it in?
Go on with your lives now. Go to PHP conferences and listen to Chris talking about php security (you know, how globals are bad or how not to trust user input, sql injection and shit) over and over again. Or invent another “really useful and great” php DB adapter like MDB2. And be sure to post the news everywhere!
Stop thinking that web belongs to you, and that PHP is The Thing. Loose the blindfolds.
